I had to post this. I recieved this from Tim's cousin, Sarah, just today.

She also has a wonderful blog:

When I read this I thought, "Holy moly, this is so true!"

Most of you know that Tim and I do not have children, but into the second year of marriage there is certainly a note of truth ringing in these words. I like to try and always remember things like this, but day to day thoughts such as these get lost in the mayhem.

And like Sarah wrote in her e-mail this was attached to, "tuck it away in the back of your mind, and remember the truth in it."

I hope this Blesses you all in some way.

To A Young Mother
Don’t try to change him; look instead to Him Janie B. Cheaney

Let me guess: Ten years ago, you never expected to be where you are today. If you could have looked down the corridors of time and seen yourself with a thoughtless husband and screaming kids and a mortgage on a house filled with days too much alike—well, you might have croaked in your youthful bloom. But that's not the point. Where you are at age 29 depends mostly on circumstance. Where you are at 39 depends mostly on character.
Think about it: From birth to 18 or thereabouts, you're someone else's problem, namely your parents'. Then you slip the loop and become your own problem. From what I remember, the 20s are when things happen, often too fast: While you're making choices, the choices are also making you. Who is this I married? What am I good at? Who are these little beings that I gave birth to?
By the 30s, you know. All those choices, once so multi-sided, have hit the ground and flattened into their true shape. What now? A few ideas:
1. Don't waste time trying to change people, especially that man. Your husband. If you haven't wrought a transformation in him by now, it's not happening. I suggest that you not even ask the Lord to change him, because that prayer too often means, "Make him more acceptable to me." Instead ask the Lord to save him, and change you.
2. Allow no root of bitterness to spring up in you. So he's careless, lazy, dismissive and/or demanding? Has he mutated since courtship days, or merely allowed his less-attractive qualities to rise to the top and stay there? It was you who chose him, remember. Was that because you were heedless, hasty, possessive and/or needy? And does that side of you show more often now than your more admirable qualities?
3. Don't weaken him by disparaging words, which spring from disparaging thoughts. He is the head of your house, however well or poorly he performs. You need him; your children need him. "The wisest of women builds her house, but folly with her own hands [and her own unrestrained tongue] tears it down" (Proverbs 14:1). Don't dismantle your own roof! Part of being a helpmeet is to think as generously of him as you can; to put the best possible interpretation on his words and actions. Think of him better than he deserves, because that is how your heavenly Father thinks of you.
4. Don't identify so completely with your children that you make the same excuses for their behavior as you once did for yours. Sin is crouching at their door (Genesis 4:7); do not fail to warn them.
But what about me? you may be crying out inside. How long can I give and give and give with no return? Who takes care of my needs? Well, that's simple: "My God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19). Are you suppressing an impulse to roll your eyes, thinking this is no time for platitudes?
It's no platitude; it's a promise from Almighty God. He will supply your needs, not (primarily) your wants, and what you need most is sanctification. The letter to the Philippians is such a treasure trove for praise choruses and inspirational greeting cards that we forget it was written in prison, by a man in chains. It's all about rejoicing in spite of circumstances, not because of them. That daily grinding you feel is God's sandpaper. Why are we surprised that it's so hard to sanctify stubborn, cross-grained knobs like us?
A truism, no less true: Character is always forged in adversity. Always. Adversity. As someone who's well beyond 30, I know what I'm talking about. Not that I've arrived: The relationship struggles are mostly over, but old age is coming, I can feel it in my bones. The "evil days" described in Ecclesiastes 12 are yet to come, when I go hand-to-hand with my failing flesh. But I do not fear, having remembered my Creator in the days of my youth, and learned to trust Him.
Oh child, learn to trust Him. That's what He's teaching you. Stop looking back with regret or looking around with discontent. Look ahead to where you'll be in 10 years, and set your course: dry and embittered, or a fruitful vine within your house?

The Practice Lawn

"What do you mean I can't go inside like this?"
Sprinkler Party

Happy Hounds

The strangest thing happened last week. We arose Wednesday morning to see about a dozen rolls of sod laying out in the street, partially obstructing our driveway. "Funny", I thought to myself, "whoever lost those will be back soon, that's alot of sod." Come 5:00 or so it was still there....."It would be sad to let that lay there and dry out and be a mess in the street", I said to Gunner(He is very attentive to my verbalized thoughts) So we decided to put the Girls out back and go load the sod into the back of the truck and put it in the back yard. Not that Gunner did much of the manual labor, but he is an amazing supervisor, I think he could definatley be suited to some sort of high level government work. But I digress.....I placed the sod in the back yard and you would have though it was free steak at the park night. The dogs went wild, they were laying in it, frolicking and sniffing, it was great fun. The Girls were romping together and if they romped off the sod patch they would stop and return to the grass. Then I decided to water the newly placed sod and learned that our new Quig loves the water! She ran around the sprinkler and got soaked, biting at the water and twirling in circles. Yes, it was a big day for all of us.

In the end, Quigley had a bath and the grass is now a week old and is still green!!!

Yoga....not for the faint of anything....

Tim-Yoga
Modified "Mountain" Pose
(which just means I'm in the mountains)

For those of you who listen to me babble on a regular basis, you are well aware of my growing love for yoga. I started about 6 months ago and it is SO GOOD. For me at least, and by golly I'm going to blog about it!!!! Tim has a friend who teaches a great class that I go to a few times a week(I'm always up to take a friend!)

Anyway, really this post is about how while Tim and I were riding we stopped to take a few quick pics up in the mountains. It is so beautiful up there this year and we wanted to do some fun shots. When we got home and put them on the computer I was like "Look at my great form!" Of course, no one cares but me, but I'm telling you, yoga will make you sore in places you never knew you had muscles. I have better posture and the waistband of my jeans is less and less like a device of suffering. I guess this post was about yoga after all.....
At some point when I accomplish a major Yoga feat like a head stand or something I'll post a real shot of me doing yoga.....right now it's alot of sweating and falling.

Play Time For the People

Taking a break in the shade.
I know this is totally tacky and my Mom will be ashamed, but this was the one injury of the day. My jeans tore, which means my rear was in direct contact with the seat all day. We decided that I have earned some real riding pants.

Red-y to Rock on my Red Rider!!

We got the dirt bikes back together again. Bless my husband and his beautiful patience, he helped me work on my bike and then put his back together(with the help of the Fabulous Alan)

We were able to go up to Divide for our first ride of the season and break in the newly repaired bikes as well as our backsides. We had alot of fun, and no one got hurt, so it was definatly a great success!!

Play Time For Pups

Tim and Quigley.....WrestleMania!!
Rotten little Baby Dog, Pisty isn't a chew toy!!

Pisty and Quigley are truly becoming best friends, though in the past couple of days Pisty has had to "correct" Quigley for playing a little too aggressively. Tim also gets in on the action from time to time, sharp little puppy teeth and all!

We sure are enjoying the new addition to the family. We started training last week. Walking on the leash and sitting. Quigley is also learning about rules and boundaries, which seems to be the most difficult for new puppies since they want to be in your face and jump and nip and be excited. She is already exposing her intelligence, so that should make things exciting.

Big Baby!

Well, our little Quigley is growing away. She has her first visit at the vet next week for her well puppy and 2nd round of shots. Here are some fun shots of her with Gunner and Pisty, for comparison sake. It shouldn't be too much longer before Quigley dwarfs the other two.

Pisty's Ploy

Hmmmmm.........

How can I get back at Mom for bringing home that pesky little baby-dog??

I know!! I'll go get in something in the backyard that I am SEVERLEY allergic to, and then she'll have to take me, and me alone, to the vet for an expensive emergency visit!!!!!

Mwah-Ha-Ha-Ha!!!!

Whoever might think that being a "Dog-Mom" is without it's stresses...please, come over and help me kennel train and housebreak an 8 week old puppy, give equal attention to 2 confused adult dogs, and then find time to squeeze in those emergency medical situations....

Oh, and work full-time.

I came home from a day working outside of the house to find Pisty in this state, needless to say, the other dogs were locked up and we raced to the vet....after some I.V. steroids and Benadryl, and a half an hour of observation we were given the go-ahead to come home and watch her tonight. The danger of course is anaphylactic shock, or, suffocation due to the throat closing from an allergic reaction. Some of you may remember several years ago when Gunner had a reaction to vaccines, and went anaphylactic in about 10 minutes. So scary, he was at the vet for a whole day to get stabilized. These tiny little beings sure can break your heart.

Anyway, we are home now and Pisty is looking a bit better.
And, Quigley is doing just fine.
Oh, yeah, and Gunner, he's good too!

Our New Little One

That's right everyone.....our family is growing........

Meet our new baby girl, who at this point is known as "Nameless" and "Pup".

She is an 8 week old Mini Aussie. She's tipping the scales at about 5 pounds, and is known as a "tri-colored aussie". Note the black, tan and white markings:)

We will keep you all posted as the name situation progresses, and we are more than grateful for suggestions.
