Josh and Kimmy: Another Study in Photography

My sister is generally a good sport about having her picture taken.
She smiles nice, rarely blinks and is sickeningly, disgustingly and almost unforgivably photogenic.
But we can delve deeper into my emotional and genetic wounds about where the facial bone structure went in our family.
Or you can go back and read this, and spare me having to open that wound.
Josh on the other hand, has trouble having his picture taken.
He can only seem to behave for so long and then this inevitably happens:
We will explore more of Josh's antics later.

Whilst I was doing John and Amber's shoot featured below, Kimmy ran through the room, and because I am her older sister, I snapped a shot of her retreating derriere. All the while her declaring, "No butt shots!"
This photo is her verbally berating me for my actions.
It is awesome to be an older sister, and I intend to instill these very values in my own daughter once she has some siblings.
hehehe

Naturally after I got her dander up, I followed her into the kitchen to get more pictures.
She instantly was charmed by my good nature and charm and wit and loveliness and let me take more pictures.
Or perhaps Josh had made us a couple of delicious cocktails......I don't exactly recall.
But I digress.

Doesn't she have lovely features?
And would you like to know she has NEVER colored her hair. Not even a tiny highlight.....ever.
Shocking I say. I'm sure she is in some sort of wee percentage of the population these days.
I personally have no clue what my natural color would look like.
But I digress again.

She ended up getting sick of me.
So I did this:

Because I'm the big sister, that's why.

Then I saw the men, being manly and watching golf.
I like these sorts of candid shots. I like them because I also have an interest in body language.
I wonder if you can get a degree in body language studies?
I always have questions like:
What does it mean that my Dad is resting his hand, palm open on his knee?
What about the fact that Josh has one hand between his legs and one in front of his mouth?
And just when I start to marvel at my great desire as to the inner workings of the human being, Josh does this:

Antics, I say. Always antics.
Notice that my Father is still totally unfazed by this.
He should become my number one candid shot subject.

John and Amber: A Study In Photography

I have always loved photography. Though, clearly, my knowledge of it runs shallow since I chose to do a self portrait in a bathroom mirror and left my flash on.
Love of something does not always lead to great wisdom of said loved thing.
Who said that? Confucius? My Confusion? Combustion?
But I digress...
I love nature and landscape but, since having a child I have grown an immense love of shooting candid shots of people. But I always end up roping them into an impromptu photo shoot.
John and Amber fell victim to this very scenario on Mother's Day.
They were actually really fun to shoot. They are always, always goofing around.

Enter me and the Nikon.
They were having a discussion. Of what I am unaware, but I doubt it was serious.
They are always, always goofing around.
Redundancy is my gift people.

Then they started growling at each other.
Imagine my surprise. Growling, I say. Like rabid squirrels.
Maybe it was serious.

Then John went through denial. Followed by shunning and delivering the cold shoulder.
Such a creep.
But she is cute, and I know he likes her.
So he ended up cozied right beck up to her in seconds.
Such a softy.

Then there was excitement.
I think they like flashing lights.

Followed by an all out assault.
In front of our Mother. On Mother's Day. With an infant's toy no less. In front of an infant.
Such a boy.

But they quickly recovered.

Then John started to goof off. Again. For the seven hundred and forty ninth time that day.

And Amber started to lose it.
Did I mention they are always, always goofing off?
I did?
Sorry.

I mean, she really started to fall apart.
Mild hysteria I would say.

Then it all started to come together.
Cute couple, no?

I think she likes him.

I also think the feeling is quite mutual.

Momma's Little Helper

I like to vacuum. Don't believe me? Read #57 in this post. It is also a good place to do a picture comparison of me and Violet. Yep, that little innocent baby is me. More shocking than the fact that I like to vacuum? You tell me.
Aside from genetics and looks, I think my love of cleaning has transferred as well.
Now that Violet is more mobile she feels it is her duty to assist me in all domestic chores. This usually ends up with all productivity ceasing so I can extract her from the situation so she does not get injured. Again. It really isn't a full day without at least 3 injuries.
But I'm pleased to report that at her latest well baby appointment, despite a split eyebrow and 3 facial contusions, the Dr. still let her go home with us.

But to get back to genetics...
I love to vacuum and Tim has a healthy obsession with lights. When these two genes unite they create this. My vacuum is safe no where. Especially when in use.

Another Reason to Celebrate

Remember these two?

If not, click here to refresh your memory.

These two lovebirds recently celebrated their first Anniversary of togetherness.

He surprised her with dinner at The Melting Pot.
Know this about The Melting Pot, they always ask if you are celebrating something, and they always do their best to put you in a private, curtained room if it's a romantic celebration. Well, at least the one close to us does this, as it has happened to Tim and I as well. But this is not about us.

This is about Kimmy, and Josh, and love, and the private curtained room, and me having the green light to blog about people's lives other than my own.

Want a little dirt?

Here it is.

I love Josh. There. I said it. Not in any sort of creepy way. In the way that one would love someone who truly compliments their sister. In the way that one would love someone who seems to let said sister shine in the ways that are good, and help to bring her back down to earth when she accidentally slips off into orbit.

My sister, in her owns words, is a Pistol. Thankfully, Josh seems to be the safety that was missing on that loose cannon. And that's a good thing. No one likes to be a casualty of a drive by.

They go together like peas and carrots. Like peanut butter and jelly. Like a massage and a martini.
I love my sister very much. I am happy that she is happy. And I am certain that my sister's finer attributes work well for Josh. She is extremely driven and successful. There is no grass growing under her feet, and I'm sure she would keep it trimmed regardless.
But the most important thing about their relationship, in my humble and all to often over expressed opinion, is that he will do the super geeky Charlie Brown dance with her at Christmas time. He even lets his mouth hang open while he does it.
That my friends, is the measure of true love.
